The Mind as a Radio

Objective:

Help clients recognize unhelpful thought patterns and practice shifting their mindset using the “radio station” metaphor.

1. Warm-Up

Prompt:

“If your mind was a radio station today, what would it be called? What’s playing?”

(Example: W-ANX 95.7 – All Worry, All the Time)

2. Discussion

Concept:

We often stay stuck on certain mental “stations”—like anxiety, shame, or anger—without realizing we can change the dial.

Prompt:

“What are your most common mental stations? How do they affect you?”

3. Creative Activity

Activity:

Draw or list your current top 3 “stations.” Then design a new station that plays what you want to hear (e.g., calm, motivation, hope).

Share if comfortable.

4. Skill-Building

Prompt:

“What helps you switch the station when you’re stuck?”

Activity:

Create a “mental remote” or “preset list” of 3 tools you can use to shift your mindset quickly (e.g., grounding, music, stepping outside).

5. Wrap-Up

Prompt:

“What’s your mental station now, and what will you try tuning into this week?”

Group shares one takeaway or strategy they’ll use to reset.
