Read the Room: Tuning into Our Internal & External Worlds

1. Opening

Welcome group with curiosity and energy: "Today, we’re going to literally read the room—and in doing that, read ourselves and each other. Everything around us can give us insight, if we pause and notice it."

2. Wall Walk

Tape printed quotes, emotions, and open-ended prompts on walls around the room (e.g., “What emotion do you avoid most?”, “Where in your body do you feel safe?”, “Name something that grounds you.”).

Invite clients to walk silently and read them, pausing where they feel something resonate. Give them sticky notes to respond on the wall if they’d like.

3. Share & Reflect

  • Invite clients to return to a quote/prompt that stood out and explain why.

  • Encourage noticing how others’ reflections mirror or differ from theirs.

  • Ask: “What did you learn from the room today?” or “What surprised you about your reaction to something on the wall?”

4. Group Discussion

Explore how “reading the room” applies in daily life:

  • When do you ignore the signs around you—or inside you?

  • How do you check in with others?

  • When have you misread a situation, and how did that impact you?

5. Closing

Invite each member to name one way they will “read the room”—or themselves—more intentionally this week. Optional: write it down and stick it on a new “intentions” wall.
